The weather has turned a bit rainy and cold here in the Southern Tier of New York, but the outlook is a little more positive for later in week, perhaps temperatures even back into the low 70's. One can only hope.

ACE Spotlight - FANUC M-3iA Robot
The FANUC Robotics' M-3iA series is a high-speed/parallel-link robot available in either a 4-axis or an industry-first 6-axis configuration. Both robots feature a 6Kg capacity, a reach diameter of 1350mm and a reach height of 500mm. J4 Wrist speed is 4000 degrees per second on the 4-axis version and 2000 degrees per second on the 6-axis version.
The M-3iA is ideal for high-speed pick and place applications including primary and secondary food handling (with the available food-grade option). Its IP67 rating allows installation in dirty/dusty environments and the food-grade version can withstand full wash-down.
The 6-axis version offers the ability for the robot to pick up and insert parts at simple or compound angles, twist parts into place and provides flexibility similar to a manual operator.The M-3iA uses FANUC servo drives providing proven reliability and the highest in uptime and productivity.

Dreams Really Do Come True
Boeing, the world's largest aerospace company and a leading manufacturer of commercial jetliners delivered the first 787 Dreamliner on September 25th to ANA, All Nippon Airways of Tokyo, Japan. What makes this so exciting is that the 787 Dreamliner is not just any ordinary plane. The 787 Dreamliner is part of a new generation of airliners featuring the extensive use of carbon-fiber composite structures in place of traditional aluminum.
It also features more-electric systems, advanced aerodynamics and modern engines providing fuel savings of about 20 percent, when compared to similar-sized planes. In addition, this plane with a 250 seat configuration now has the ability, due to its fuel efficiency, to fly 8000 miles or further. Previously, this was only possible in the larger 365 to 400 passenger Jumbo Jets.
Besides the exterior, technology abounds within the 787 Dreamliner. The windows are not only larger, but they also feature electro-chromatic shades. LED lighting and larger luggage bins highlight some welcome additions to air travel. Cleaner cabin air, higher humidity and lower altitude pressurization all lend to a more refreshed feeling after traveling on the 787 Dreamliner.

ACE RoboCart
The ACE RoboCart provides a low-cost portable automation platform for machine tending, part marking or part inspection. A unique drawer system is utilized for parts storage whereby customer supplied fixtures are placed in the drawer, providing consistent part locations for robotic load and unload. This system incorporates the latest in robotic technology, allowing the operator to load the system and walk away while parts are being processed automatically.
RoboCart's compact size provides good line of site to the machine tool it is servicing or when used as a stand alone inspection platform, consumes minimal valuable floor space. RoboCart is portable and has docking capability for quick and easy relocation from machine to machine. The ACE RoboCart utilizes FANUC Robotics' LR200iC series 6-axis robust/compact tabletop robot for high-speed motion, versatile flexibility and proven reliability. The operation of RoboCart is accomplished through use of a series of push-buttons and the robot teach pendant.
Robot end of arm tooling is available in multiple configurations including: single gripper, dual gripper, vacuum cup or magnetic. The tooling is designed specifically to the application for optimal part handling. Flow-thru continuous motion conveyors are available in lieu of the fixtured drawer for even greater flexibility. Vision inspection and part location/orientation are also available using FANUC iRVision.
