ACE Spotlight
FANUC Paint Mate 200iA Robot
The FANUC Robotics' Paint Mate 200iA robot is a compact, servo-driven paint robot with best-in-class performance. The Paint Mate is designed for operation in a hazardous environment. The robot's compact size, dexterity and speed make it the perfect choice for paint and other coatings. Some common applications include: painting, coating, assembly and handling in Hazardous environments, material removal where hazardous chemicals are present and dispensing.

The 200iA offers 5Kg load capacity at the wrist, 6 axis and two reach configurations - either 704mm or 892mm. The FANUC 200iA can be mounted in floor, ceiling, angle or wall mount configurations. A standard FANUC Robotics' purge control is supplied and works perfectly with the robots purges and pressurized cavities. Optional one or four pneumatic three-way solenoid valves located in the purge cavity are available for gun triggering capability.

FANUC Paint Mate 200iA

PaintTool software is available for the Paint Mate 200iA offering optional configurations for stand alone or multiple robot systems with built-in paint function controls such as: Analog parameter control, Color change control, Cancel/Continue feature, Integral 2K variable ratio pump control, ACCUFLOW closed-loop fluid control, line tracking and many more. The FANUC Paint Mate is so flexible and versatile, I am sure there is one to meet your specific application.

Boston Dynamics AlphaDog Proto
Boston Dynamics obviously has a group of talented engineers and programmers. The new AlphaDog prototype is literally amazing. This device is being developed to carry a 400lb payload (notice the Olympic plate weights on its side) on 20-mile missions for the US Marine Corps. Although the current lab prototype is powered remotely as it is being developed, the final version will be powered by an internal combustion engine. While you review this video, you can see that the designers looked to nature for their inspiration. I can't help but think of a deer when I look at the motions and ability for this device to not only stand up, but recover its balance when pushed from the side.

I hope you enjoy this video as much as I did.

MD&M West 2012
Medical Design & Manufacturing (MD&M) West is the most complete resource for medical device development. Medtech professionals and leading medical OEM suppliers come together to provide immediate hands-on access to the tools needed to accelerate your new device to market.

At this show you will find Assembly/Automation and Manufacturing equipment, Cleanroom and Sterilization, CNC Machine Tools and Lasers, Design Services, Packaging/Labeling/Barcoding and much more. There are many opportunities to attend leading edge conferences in addition to the exhibition area.
Automated Cells will be exhibiting at booth 2249 with Lumetrics, Inc. Our booth will feature the latest version of the RoboCart automation platform featuring medical device inspection using Lumetrics latest sensor technology. We look forward to seeing you there on February 14 -16 at the Anaheim Convention Center in Anaheim, California.

FANUC iRVision - A Versatile Tool
FANUC Robotics' System R-30iA controller comes standard with iRVision hardware. Simply load the software option, connect a 2-D camera or 3DL sensor directly to the controller and you are immediately ready to add a vision process to the robotic application. iRVision is a ready-to-use robotic vision system that requires no additional hardware except for a camera, cable and lighting. It can provide 2-D or 3-D robot guidance and/or an error proofing tool to accomplish part location, presence detection and other operations that would normally require special sensors or customer fixturing.

Some examples of what we have used iRVision for include: part location and orientation of semi-organized parts (as shown below), error proofing a part for top and bottom orientation prior to loading a press or machine tool, part orientation relative to a timing mark (dimple or shape) prior to machine load, lights-out application for loading trays with precision aluminum parts including tier sheet placement.

Having been on the design side of things for years and having to mechanically poke-yoke automation, FANUC Robotics' iRVision is a wonderful tool when properly applied. It not only saves time, but it saves money because it is typically much less expensive than the mechanical solution (assuming the robot is already in the cell). If you think you may have an application for a FANUC robot with iRVision please let us know. We would be happy to assist you.
