Fun Facts About Fanuc Robotics

FANUC Robotics' not only makes a great robot, but they also have some great history. Did you know ...

  • 1972 - FANUC became an independent company from its parent Fujitsu.
  • 1982 - With a $10 million investment from General Motors Corporation and FANUC LTD, GMFanuc Robotics Corporation was established in June of 1982. A staff of 70 started work at the GM Technical Center in Warren, Michigan and later that year relocated to a 50,000-square-foot facility in Troy, Michigan. The first customer installation consisted of a 10-robot paint line located at the GM assembly plant in Doraville, Georgia.
  • 1992 - General Motors Corporation sold its 50-percent ownership in GMF Robotics to FANUC LTD, who then created two subsidiaries FANUC Robotics North America, Inc. and FANUC Robotics Europe GmbH. It was noted during the signing ceremony that over one half of the original executive staff was left handed.
  • 1998 - FANUC Robotics achieved ISO 9001:1994/QS-9000 certification.
  • 2008 - FANUC M-430iA robot achieves USDA acceptance. It was the first and only robot to meet hygiene requirements for meat and poultry processing and received acceptance from the United States Department of Agriculture.
  • 2009 - FANUC Robotics had a starring role in assembling an army of Terminators in Warner Brothers’ Terminator Salvation. Also, the FANUC M-2000iA/1200 was introduced. This robot had a1350kg payload and promoted the highest payload and the strongest wrist in the industry, when compared to other six-axis robots.
  • 2010 - FANUC Robotics was featured on Modern Marvel’s “Top Ten Technological Innovations of the Last Generation.”

  • FANUC headquarters is located in its own forest of 1.5 million square meters located at the foot of Mt. Fuji.
  • FANUC is vertically integrated and makes its own encoders, servo amps, CPU's, enclosures, robots and machine tools including: RoboShot, RoboDrill and RobotCut.
  • FANUC is most famous for its servo motors. In fact, they manufacture over 1 million servo motors per year.
  • FANUC provides more than 50% of all CNC controls and motors to the machine tool industry worldwide.
